Northeastern counties to remain dry as Coast region set to receive occassional rains in January
Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo, Mandera and Marsabit counties are likely to experience sunny and dry conditions this month.
The weatherman has announced that counties in the Northeastern region are likely to experience dry conditions while the Coast region is expected to receive occasional rainfall in January.
Deputy Director of Kenya Meteorological Department Bernard Chanzu said Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Mandera and Marsabit counties are likely to experience sunny and dry conditions this month.

“However, occasional light rainfall may be experienced over a few areas during the fourth week of the month,” he said in a seasonal forecast.
He urged the residents to hydrate appropriately and avoid working in the open, especially in the afternoons during the dry spell.
“The high temperatures expected during January in most parts of the country may lead to heat stress and heat-related discomforts such as headaches and fatigue,” he said.
However, a few areas in Southern Garissa bordering Lamu may also experience occasional rainfall from the third week.
For the Coast region, Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale counties, are likely to receive occasional rainfall with some breaks.
“The rainfall is likely to be near to above the long-term average amounts received during the same month in other years,” Chanzu said.
Siaya, Busia, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Vihiga, Kakamega and Nandi), southern Rift Valley (Bomet, Kericho, Narok), and the south-eastern lowlands (Kajiado, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos and Taita Taveta) are expected to receive rainfall during this month.
Others include Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi and Embu counties.
The rains and the expected elevated temperatures are a result of the El Niño conditions expected to last until April.
